The location:
The bay of Cala Jondal 5 km away from the airport of Ibiza situated in the southwestern part of the island, it is known as one of the most beautiful bays of the island, wild and romantic with more or less no development and hotels.
There is a nice choice of several chiringuitos (typical spanish strand bars) along the beach, some of these bars have acheived cult status such as the restaurant Yemanja, named by the brasilien goodness of the sea, also there is the exclusive Blue Marlin, where every Saturday Paco Fernandez performs his already legendary fabulous Flamenco show.
By going downhill you will find a small road that takes you to a crescent-shaped bay, be under no illusions, you are on the brink of paradise.
The wine tasting and Tapas take place in a private villa with a charming atmosphere. The villa is called Can Marquet and is situated 300 meters away from the beach on top of a cliff at an altitude of 50 meters, overviewing the whole ensemble. – for directions please see below – The view of the bay, bent in a sickle shape, the hills are covered with pine trees and the beautiful valley is part cultivation, part of it is still virgin.
In the distance you can see the highest mountain of Ibiza, called Sa Talaia at an altitude of 472 meters, named for the first inhabitants of Ibiza 2.500 years ago.
From the large covered terrace, with its ample table for up to 24 guests, you are looking over the large out door terrace with its swimming pool, which in summertime often is gladly used by our guests to have a little chilling, down to the bay and ahead of the white pyramid house of the Blue Marlin and his majestic Palm tree which dominates the whole scene, you can admire in summertime all kinds of big sailing boats and yachts.
This year we had also the new revolutionary world reknowned Design-Yacht from Phillipe Starck anchoring for many days in our bay!
In winter time the wine tasting and meals takes place in the large parlour of the house with a friendly fireplace.
The wine tasting:
Winetasting can be arranged any time of the week, Sundays included.
The wine tasting session is always personalized with the lady of the house providing appetisers.
The wine degustation is mainly focused on new ambitious spanish winerys from the regions of Rueda, Toro, Rioja, Penedes, Somontano among others. Our wine store dispose also provides a wide range of Italian and French wines. Please click the link for: wine list
Tapas, Fondues, Paellas:
If you would like to combine the wines together with food which goes along with it you can do so while opting either for a tapa degustation, a fundue or a Paella. The Buffet is recommeded for groups of more then 24 participants.
Contrary to the basic winetasting, here we charge an contribution of 35 Euros per person. The dining is basically for free!
The Tapas:
The tapas – groups from 10 persons up – are composed of 14 to 16 different small dishes, lovingly elaborated by Jacqueline the lady of the house. The dishes will vary every time, this is in part dictated by the daily offers of the market.
Before starting the Tapas a little aperitiv will be served, a cava, the spanish sparkling wine, which is analogously prepared after the french champagne method combined with something to nibble. Some of the classics our regular guests continually ask for, are for example: Chicory with an Roquefort whip garnished with walnuts, cuttlefish in his own ink, or Calamari of the grill, king prawns in rose whiskey sauce, Pollo en escabeche, a chicken prepared from an old spanish recipe, cured by using an imulsion of half amount of olive oil and half amount of vinegar.
Also appreciated by our guests is Jacquelines filet of pork flambé, stuffed with plums we also provide dishes such as carpaccio from reindeer, scallops in saffron-juice, fresh lobster or espardenyes rolled in bacon on black risotto with calamari, a typical dish from Ibiza, this of course only by pre-order…
In between fish and meat dishes a little intermezzo is provided, Jacquelines already legendary chupitos are served, small little shot glasses in summertime filled with different cold soups, in winter with hot ones always arouse enthusiasm. As the last fish dish before the intermezzo there is Jacquelines mejillones, mussels andalusien style which are refinded with white wine and sherry. We have plenty of testimonials from our many visitors that agree these mussels are the best ones they have ever eaten…Usually two desserts round off this amazing meal, typically lasting 4 hours.
The landlord, Michael is responsible for the service, he pours the right wine for every dish served while giving useful information together with witty anecdotes about wine-making. the people who does it , history etc. Of course a café solo is served and Hierbas Ibizencas, the classic digestive of Ibiza.
The fondues:
Meat fondue either in oel or in a hot pot or both together, fish fondue – here prices according to daily market offer -, or cheese fondue is an special offer for groups up to max. 6 pers. Different varieties of meat are served and a range choice of home-made sauces, good bread, a big salat and as an starter some small tapas… We guarantee big fun and an splendid evening or afternoon, which you won’t forget easily!
The Paella:
The paella, the spanish national dish, is known to be cooked best in Valencia, but here you got the chance to have a really good one also in Ibiza. If you want, the paella is prepared at the table and Jacqueline will let you into a secret of a good paella...
Catering:
We are not an classical catering service but we also do our wine tasting and food external on special demand of our regular guests. Mostly for particular events like birthdays and small weddings. So we are very flexible concerning even fancy wishes such as a birthday party underneath the blooming almond trees in the valley of Santa Ines (january/february). Only in exceptional cases we organise also big parties up to 100 pers., including music, decoration, presentations, buffet, servant-service etc.
